A painter of historical, mythological and imaginative subjects, portraits and some landscapes. He studied at St John’s Wood School of Art and at the RA Schools from 1884, winning the Landseer Scholarship in 1890 and studying in Paris at the Académie Julien and in Rome. His paintings often depicted subjects connected with the sea.
